Public Service Announcement Guidlines

GAPWEST Broadcasting can assist you in “getting the word out” about your non-profit club or organization through free Public Service Announcements (PSA’s). These can either be generic in nature or tailored to specific events (like annual fundraisers). In short, anything you’d like to let our community know about your non-profit.

There are a couple of ways to approach creating a PSA for radio. You can write your own script and submit it for one of our DJ’s to produce, or have someone of your own choosing come in to voice the PSA. A 30 second PSA is approximately 7-8 typed (12pt.) lines (hint: numbers take longer to say than the space they take typed). We also accept pre-produced 15, 30 and 60 second PSA’s on cd or MP3.

The easiest way to write a generic PSA is to simply take basic information from your website (if you have one). Usually the Mission Statement, About Us or the Home Page introduction works very well for the bulk of your message. Then it can be “tagged” at the end with local contact information (address and/or phone number, e-mail or website).

The majority of these PSA’s are loaded into the “Fill” category of our computer system. Yours would then rotate with others as time and availability allow and inserted periodically around paid advertising spots.

These generic PSA’s can be a very valuable publicity tool. Repetition (frequency) of your message keeps it top-of-mind in the community. Then, while publicizing an event, listeners are already familiar with your club or organization. They also work wonders for membership drives!

Notes:

1. If your organization, board members or a campaign/event underwriter has invested in advertising with other media outlets, we are unable to announce your event at no charge. A sales representative can provide you discounted rates for non-profit organizations.

2. If your event is being sponsored by another group of radio stations, we will decline from including it in our line-up as a PSA. We all respect each other’s exclusive sponsorship arrangements.

Gap West Broadcasting is committed to serving our community and this is a way we can do it together. Give us a call or e-mail us a rough draft and we’ll take it from there.
